Clash Royale's New September 2026 Cards: Minion Giant and Hero Ice Wizard
What Supercell has actually confirmed about Minion Giant and Hero Ice Wizard, what is still unannounced, and the decks worth lining up before Season 87 starts.
Short answer
Direct answer
Clash Royale's September 2026 update brings two cards. Minion Giant is a brand-new 4-elixir flying win condition that only attacks buildings and Crown Towers, and it cannot be knocked back. Hero Ice Wizard is a Hero form of the Ice Wizard: its ability freezes an area by dropping a Snowman, and the freeze lasts until the Snowman is destroyed. Season 87 starts on Monday 7 September 2026. Neither card's full stats have been published yet.
Key takeaways
- Minion Giant costs 4 elixir, flies, and attacks only buildings and Crown Towers.
- Knockback does not move Minion Giant, so the usual Fireball or Giant Snowball tempo answer stops working on it.
- Hero Ice Wizard's ability freezes an area by dropping a Snowman, and destroying the Snowman ends the freeze early.
- Season 87 starts Monday 7 September 2026. Hitpoints, damage, rarity and ability costs are all still unannounced.
What Supercell announced
| Card | What it is | Elixir | Confirmed behaviour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minion Giant | Brand-new card | 4 | Flying win condition, attacks only buildings and Crown Towers, immune to knockback |
| Hero Ice Wizard | Hero form of an existing card | 3 (base card) | Ability drops a Snowman that freezes an area until it is destroyed |
Both cards were revealed in the TV Royale episode on 29 August 2026, the show Supercell uses to preview each season. Season 87 starts on Monday 7 September 2026.
That table is genuinely all of it. A reveal is a trailer, not a stat sheet: Supercell showed what these cards do, not what their numbers are. So the rest of this article keeps the two apart — what was actually announced, and what nobody outside Supercell knows yet.
The cards are also not the whole update. The same season brings a 2v2 Competitive League, a new random game mode challenge, and Princess Gambit returning as the season's Global Tournament.
Minion Giant: a flying win condition at four elixir
Air win conditions have always been expensive. Lava Hound costs 7, Balloon costs 5, and both of them ask you to commit a big chunk of your bar before anything happens. A flying building-targeter at 4 elixir is a price point the game has not had, and that alone is worth paying attention to.
The targeting is the familiar part. Like Hog Rider or Balloon, Minion Giant walks past your troops and goes for the nearest building. Your Knight will not stop it. Your Valkyrie will not stop it. Anything that hits air, or a building that pulls it off its line, is where the answer has to come from.
The knockback immunity is the genuinely new part. A lot of the game's cheap defence is not really damage, it is displacement: you throw a Giant Snowball or a Fireball, the attacker gets shoved back a tile, and your tower buys the two seconds it needed. That trade does not exist against Minion Giant. A Fireball still does its damage, but it stops being a tempo card and becomes just a damage card, which is a meaningfully worse deal at 4 elixir.
- Confirmed: 4 elixir, flying, attacks only buildings and Crown Towers, cannot be knocked back.
- Provisional: it looks like a Rare from what has surfaced of the card so far. Supercell has not published the rarity, so treat that as an estimate — and with it the level curve the card lands on.
- Not announced at all: hitpoints, damage, hit speed, movement speed, and which arena unlocks it.
- Open question: whether it is a tank you support, like Lava Hound, or a threat you protect, like Balloon. Its hitpoints decide that, and they have not been published.
Hero Ice Wizard and the Snowman
Ice Wizard has always been a slow, not a stop. It shaves attack and movement speed off everything in its splash, which is why it shows up in control decks that want to stretch a defence out rather than win it outright.
The Hero form turns that into an actual freeze, and it does it through an object. The ability drops a Snowman that freezes an area, and the troops caught in it stay frozen until the Snowman is destroyed. That is an unusually two-sided design: the defender gets a freeze that can last longer than a Freeze spell, and the attacker gets a target that ends it early. Whether it is strong comes down to numbers nobody has published — how much the Snowman costs, how much health it has, and how wide the freeze reaches.
Worth remembering how Hero slots work if you have not run one: a Hero occupies your Hero slot, and under the current deck rules you can field at most two special forms across three special slots. Bringing Hero Ice Wizard is a slot decision, not a free upgrade.
Two decks worth lining up now
| Deck | Cards | Average elixir |
|---|---|---|
| Minion Giant air pressure | Minion Giant, Balloon, Mega Minion, Guards, Tombstone, Skeleton Dragons, Zap, Fireball | 3.5 |
| Hero Ice Wizard control | Hog Rider, Ice Wizard (Hero), Musketeer, Cannon, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball, The Log | 2.8 |
You cannot test either card yet, so treat these as starting points rather than tuned lists. Both are built the same way: take a shell that already works, put the new card in the seat that matches its job, and see what the swap costs you.
The Minion Giant list is a LavaLoon shell with Minion Giant in the Lava Hound's seat. Be aware that this is not a like-for-like swap. Dropping from 7 elixir to 4 takes the deck's average from about 3.9 down to about 3.5, which is a real gain — but you also give up the Hound's health bar and its Lava Pups, and until the hitpoints are published nobody knows whether Minion Giant can absorb the way the Hound does.
- Full breakdown: Minion Giant LavaLoon — the eight cards, the counters the shell already faces, and the same warning about what has not been measured.
- Full breakdown: Hero Ice Wizard Hog Cycle.
- The second list is deliberately unchanged from a standard Hog cycle. The Hero form is a slot swap, so the deck around it does not need rebuilding — which is exactly why it is the cheapest way to try the new Hero.
Why our model will not score these cards yet
Rigged Royale's win-chance model learns from played battles. Minion Giant has never been played, so the model has no read on it, and any number we printed for it would be invented rather than measured.
Both cards are in the app already — you can open Minion Giant and Ice Wizard, and you can put them in a deck in the Deck Lab. What you will not get is a win-chance verdict on the Minion Giant slot until the card has been out long enough to retrain on. Until then the Lab scores that slot as a neutral card of the same cost, so the rest of your deck still gets measured properly.
What is still unannounced
Plenty, and it is the half that decides whether either card is any good. As of 30 August 2026, none of this has been published:
- Minion Giant's hitpoints, damage, hit speed and movement speed. Its rarity looks like Rare, but that is a read rather than a published figure.
- Hero Ice Wizard's ability cost, freeze radius, freeze duration and Snowman hitpoints.
- Which card arrives with Pass Royale and which one comes later in the season.
- September's balance changes, which Supercell normally publishes in the days before a season starts.
- Once the full card pages and the September balance notes go up in the Clash Royale news archive, this article gets the real numbers and the guesswork comes out.

Quick answers
When do Minion Giant and Hero Ice Wizard come out?
Both arrive with Clash Royale's September 2026 update. Season 87 starts on Monday 7 September 2026. Supercell has not said which of the two lands first, and seasons often stagger their new cards.
What counters Minion Giant?
Nothing is confirmed, because the card has not been played yet. From the announced kit, the answers are anything that hits air with real damage and any air-targeting building that pulls it off its line — an Inferno Tower or a Tesla, for example. What will not work is the usual knockback trade: Minion Giant cannot be knocked back, so Fireball and Giant Snowball buy no time against it.
Is Minion Giant the same as Mega Minion?
No. They are different cards. Mega Minion is a 3-elixir support troop that attacks whatever is in front of it. Minion Giant is a 4-elixir win condition that ignores troops and goes for buildings. The names are close enough to confuse, partly because some language settings translate Mega Minion as 'Giant Minion'.
Do I need a new deck for Hero Ice Wizard?
Not really. A Hero form is a slot swap, so any deck that already runs Ice Wizard can field the Hero version by putting it in the Hero slot. The thing to check is your other special forms, since the deck rules limit how many you can bring at once.
